The Rides...

Go Ride!! This is what WeSTOC is all about! Great rides with great friends! Look through the following routes and see what appeals to you. Find some fellow STOCers and have some fun seeing the beautiful Northwest from your STeed!

Destination Highways Washington is a fabulous book that has cataloged and rated all of the best motorcycle roads in Washington State. The routes in this book are all numbered from DH01 through DH74. All of the top 10 rated roads (DH01 to DH10), are included in the routes we've prepared for you here, along with a few others! Any DHxx link you see in our routes on the following pages will take you to the associated rating page on the Destination Highways web site. Follow that link and you'll find the attributes that comprise the rating for that road section along with rider comments. Some of these pages even include video shot from a motorcycle riding the road in question! Hopefully this information will help you choose your routes from the many awesome options! Good luck!!

We've broken the rides into four main categories:

The 'Local Rides' are shorter routes to some of the nearby sites and restaurants around Redmond and the surrounding towns.

The 'Peninsula Rides' will take you across Puget Sound via a Washington State Ferry to the rain forest and mountains of the Olympic Peninsula.

The 'Eastern Washington Rides' take you over the Cascade mountains to the dry palouse.

The 'Mountain/Passes Rides' include various mountain loops and trips to Mount Rainier, Mount Baker and Mount St. Helens. There's even a 5 pass Big Dog ride!

Adam has created a nifty website with Rides To and From WeSTOC XII. For some great roads in Washington that aren't included in the regular rides pages here, click this link! Check back often, as he'll be adding new roads every couple of weeks!

Attention! On November 6 and 7, 2006, Mount Rainier National Park received 18 inches of rain in 36 hours!! The resulting flooding caused wide spread damage throughout the park. You can see picture here. Initially, HWY 123 and Steven’s Canyon road were to be closed until next summer. Road crews were able to open HWY 123 from the junction with US12 up to the Stevens Canyon Road entrance at the south-east entrance of the park. Additionally, Stevens Canyon Road is open up to Paradise, although there are a few one lane sections. The good news is there is a way around the remain closed section of HWY 123 via the beautiful Chinook and White Passes. The bad news (not that bad), is this adds 75 wonderful miles to some of the routes. Version 1.3 of the route files contain the modified routes. These are the final versions of the files as we will not be making any further changes. We will continue to keep everyone up to date via the various email lists and web sites and bring everyone up to date at the riders meeting the first night of WeSTOC.

NOTE!! The GPS routes available here were created using Garmin's Mapsource program and the City Navigator North America v7 & v8 map databases. This is the map database that comes with the Garmin 2610 family of gps devices. If you have an earlier version of City Navigator (v6), or if you own a different gps, or use a different map set with your gps, you must verify these routes before using them!! Due to differences in the various map sets, you <may> get a slightly different route when using the provided routes!! To verify the route, load it into Mapsource, double click on the desired route in the route list, and select 'recalculate route'. Mapsource will then use the route waypoint data and your map database to create the route. <Sometimes> the route you get can vary from the desired route due to differences in the various map databases. Carefully compare the route you get with the routes above. If you do see a deviation from the desired route simply right click on the route and select 'insert route section', then pick a point on the desired road. Mapsource will modify the route to include that road section. You can then upload the route into your gps. The verification process is an important step if you are using anything other than a 2610 and the v7 or v8 databases. Even if you upload these routes into a different gps and they <look> correct, be wary! You'll want to disable the automatic recalculation feature in your gps. If you don't, the first time the gps <thinks> you're off route it will perform a recalculation of the route and <may> change the route to <something> different!!

Information about Crossing the border to Canada.

Documents You Will Need to Enter the United States Important Note: The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative will soon require all travelers to and from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted form of documentation to enter or reenter the United States. The program will be rolled out in phases. The proposed timeline is as follows:

December 31, 2006: Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

December 31, 2007: Requirement could be extended by January 31, 2008.

(NOTE: These dates are not final until the final ruling is published in the Federal Register later this year.) Until this requirement is in effect as noted above, U.S. citizens are currently exempt from the requirement to show a passport unless they are returning to the U.S. from outside the Western Hemisphere (Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia). However, it is highly recommended that you be prepared to present documentation such as valid U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, or naturalization certificate to avoid delays.
